WhatKast is a podcast host who talks about conspiracies, paranormal activities, and unusual news. Besides his podcast he has accounts on YouTube and TikTok. He has become well known for his humor and style of debating flat earthers on TikTok.
History
WhatKast is very skeptical of government and authority figures in general. He is not science minded and does not have a science background. In 2020 he started his podcast and immediately delved into conspiracies, some controversial, some humorous. Topics ranged from Covid, 9/11, alien abductions, the loch ness monster, ghosts and paranormal activities. When it came to flat earth there were a few things that made him consider the validity of it. He wanted to discuss it on his podcast but noticed that he initially had trouble finding guests to discuss it.
Interview with Flat Earth Dave
WhatKast was able to get an interview with Flat Earth Dave in 2021. This interview ironically convinced him that the earth wasn't flat. Dave had asked him not to research or look up anything about flat earth before the interview. However, WhatKast did look up flight times for southern flights and noticed Dave had said some things that were not true about them. When confronted Dave made spurious claims about trade winds, military pilots, and special paint. Dave's dishonesty became a turning point, and WhatKast became very skeptical of flat earth claims.
TFE and Flat Earth
In 2024 WhatKast was able to interview Will Duffy for The Final Experiment. This introduced him to the flat earth debunking community. While he was still discussing other topics, he began to discuss flat earth more and more. He would also review videos by flat earthers such as True Earther and have debates with flat earthers. On TikTok he has talked to Gas Pressure the most, but also Jeranism, Sun of Africa, Gladiator, Soli, Angels of Light, and Tron.
WhatKast has said the dishonesty he has seen amongst flat earthers has actually made him less skeptical of other conspiracies.
Style
WhatKast will sometimes have a more traditional podcast and delve into one or more specific topics and talk about what he researched about them. Often he will do a video review and watch, comment, and/or mock a conspiracy video. He will often host debates on TikTok which are also livestreamed on YouTube.
WhatKast doesn't specifically want to discuss flat earth every show, however he has built an audience which enjoys it. He doesn't take any flat earthers seriously so he will often make jokes and try to make the discussions humorous. He frequently gives nicknames to flat earthers and will play funny sound clips from Nathan Oakley.
WhatKast has a "no bullshit" style of talking. He tries to be non-committal to any doctrine or group and is very willing to change his mind given reliable evidence. He is known for giving guests time to speak and leeway, as evidence with his interview with Flat Earth Dave. He does not like tone policing and will often curse and be abrasive. He will also "match energy" when the guest starts shouting and overtalking, his discussions with Science With Freddy are the best example of this.
