Nicolaus Copernicus
Nicolaus Copernicus (1473–1543; Polish: Mikołaj Kopernik) was a Catholic canon of Warmia and the astronomer who argued, in De revolutionibus orbium coelestium (Nuremberg, 1543), that the Earth moves and that the planets go around the Sun.
He was a doctor of canon law (Ferrara, 1503). He dedicated De revolutionibus to Pope Paul III. The 1616 Index objection was the moving Earth versus a literal reading of Scripture, not a charge of sun worship.
