*Gyros on planes don't need to "recalculate" anything, but they do in fact require the use of [[Wikipedia:Attitude indicator#Operation|pendulous vanes]] to keep the rotor's axis aligned with Earth's gravity. *Planes do not need to dip their nose down to follow the curvature of Earth. To explain simply, if lift is greater than gravity, the plane will get further from Earth's centre (and vice versa). If lift and gravity are perfectly balanced, no adjustment to the attitude angle is needed to follow Earth's curvature.

Cameron Thomason, known on social media as holistichealthnut33, is a flat Earther, conspiracy theorist and alternative health advocate prominent on Instagram (and less so on TikTok).

Beyond endlessly parroting just about every flat Earth talking point in existence, he has expressed other extremely bizarre beliefs, such as that sunscreen is the cause of skin cancer and not the sun,[2] or that viruses don't exist.[3]

He is known for saying "I made this video for entertainment purposes only" at the end of each of his posts, presumably as a loophole to avoid being flagged for false information.

He is also known for being debunked multiple times by Dr Blitz.[4][5][6]

Flat Earth claims

Antarctic 24 hour sun isn't real

Thomason admits that an Antarctic 24 hour sun is only possible in the globe model, but is apparently oblivious to the existence of TFE. He proceeds to call footage of the 24 hour sun fake, which includes him being confused as to why the exact same camera lens is producing the same sun flare pattern a day apart.[7]

Gyroscopes on planes

Did you know that every gyroscope for an airplane is actually adjusted when it is made to be gathering empirical data over a flat and non-rotating surface? So what this means is that it is built and designed to determine if the plane is level with the flat and non-rotating surface below it. So if the globe was spinning at a thousand miles an hour, and we had curvature of eight inches per mile squared, and we were 37,000 feet above sea level, then the gyroscope would have to constantly recalculate where that level is, and the plane would have to consistently tilt its nose down during the entire flight...[8]

To address the key lies one by one:

  • Gyroscopes are not built for use over any particular surface. Gyros cannot "know" anything besides their own orientation in relation to the rotor's spin axis.
  • Gyros on planes don't need to "recalculate" anything, but they do in fact require the use of pendulous vanes to keep the rotor's axis aligned with Earth's gravity. There is an excellent video by Bob the Science Guy explaining this in detail.
  • Planes do not need to dip their nose down to follow the curvature of Earth. To explain simply, if lift is greater than gravity, the plane will get further from Earth's centre (and vice versa). If lift and gravity are perfectly balanced, no adjustment to the attitude angle is needed to follow Earth's curvature.
