Poe's Law
Appearance
Poe's Law states that it is impossible to distinguish between parody of absurd ideas and genuine expression of absurd ideas without clear indication of the author's intent.[1]
Poe's Law is especially relevant in flerf discussions because there is an extremely fine line between satire of flat Earth and sincere flat Earth beliefs. If an alleged flerf:
- expresses ideas that are particularly farfetched,
- or gives some indication that they are smarter than a typical flerf,[note 1]
they are often suspected of being a Poe (i.e., a rather convincing satirist).
