Argentina national football team flight

From Flerf Wiki

Flat earthers like to claim that the 2022 flight of the Argentina national football team is a problem for the globe. It's not, in fact, the flight is impossible on flat earth. This flight confirms the earth is a globe.

First Law of Flerf Strikes again.

The Claim

Flerfs claim that the globe flight must fly direct from Doha to Buenas Areas, but since the flight stopped in Rome that the flight was a straight line on flat earth.

The Facts

The Plane

The team chartered the plane, an A330-200.

The tail number of the plane was LV-FVH. This is specifically the Airbus A330-202 version, which has a range of 13,427 km or 8,343 miles.

The Route - Globe

The direct, non-stop flight using the globe great circle route from Doha to Buenos Aires is 13,739km or 8,537 miles.

The flight from Doha to Rome is 4,023km or 2500 miles.

The direct, non-stop flight using the globe great circle route from Rome to Buenos Aires is 11,713km or 7228 miles.

The Route - Flat

The straight, non-stop flat earth flight from Doha to Buenos Aires is 17,689km or 10,997 miles.

The straight, non-stop flat earth flight from Rome to Buenos Aires is 13,131km or 8,159 miles.

The Analysis

Globe

On the globe the Airbus A330-200 variant they were flying on would not make the flight, they would run out of fuel and crash in the ocean. They had to choose some intermediary location to refuel. That location had to be far enough along the route that the second leg of the flight was within the airplane's range. A straight route would fly over central Africa. Countries include Sudan, Central African Republic, The Republic of Congo, and Gabon. If you are familiar with the politics of these countries you would know that they are not reliable places to service large aircraft.

Aerolineas Argentinas and ITA Airways have a long standing relationship. There are multiple weekly flights between Rome and Buenos Aires so the relationship between these two airlines makes perfect sense as a refueling stopover.

Flat

While the route does appear straight on the flat earth map, there is a problem. The flight between Rome and Buenos Aires on flat earth is 8,159 miles, just within the 8,343 mile range of the plane. However, airlines always carry reserve fuel, 5–10% contingency, diversion fuel, and final reserve for ~30–45 minutes holding. Reserving just 5% for this safety the range is reduced to 7,926 miles.

On flat earth the flight from Rome to Buenos Aires is impossible.

Additional Proof

Flerfs always stop "doiung their own research" as soon as they think they have found the confirmation that they seek. Rather than truth.

Airlines have to carry insurance on their planes and insurance companies don't like insuring planes when they fly over war torn countries. Large portions of Africa are prohibited by insurance companies, so there's no way a direct route, even with a plane that could fly the distance, could fly over Africa. Insurance companies would not insure the plane.

Flat earthers are not truth seekers. They are lazy and gullible.
