Flerfs love to claim there are more time zones in the south than in the north. As always this is a lie invented by some flerf and the "do your own research" flerfs forget to do their own research.

In reality there are more time zones in the north.

Time zones by hemisphere

Time zones by hemisphere is a breakdown of the world's time zones (UTC offsets) according to their usage in the Northern Hemisphere or Southern Hemisphere.

The List of UTC offsets shows all current standard time offsets from UTC−12:00 to UTC+14:00. This page classifies them by hemisphere based on primary land usage.

  • Northern Hemisphere: 33 unique offsets (Europe, North America, most of Asia, northern Africa).
  • Southern Hemisphere: 17 unique offsets (Australia, New Zealand, southern South America, southern Africa, Pacific islands).

Northern Hemisphere

UTC−12:00 — Baker Island and Howland Island (United States Minor Outlying Islands, uninhabited).

UTC−11:00 — American Samoa, Niue (limited northern islands).

UTC−10:00 — Hawaii (United States), parts of Alaska (United States), French Polynesia (Society Islands).

UTC−09:30 — Marquesas Islands (French Polynesia).

UTC−09:00 — Most of Alaska (United States).

UTC−08:00 — Pacific Time (western United States, western Canada, Pitcairn Islands).

UTC−07:00 — Mountain Time (western Canada, western United States, northern Mexico).

UTC−06:00 — Central Time (central United States, central Canada, Mexico, Central America).

UTC−05:00 — Eastern Time (eastern United States, eastern Canada, Colombia, Peru, Ecuador).

UTC−04:00 — Atlantic Time (eastern Canada, Venezuela, Bolivia, northern Brazil areas).

UTC−03:30 — Newfoundland Time (Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada). Parts of Greenland (Denmark), northern Brazil regions.

UTC−02:00 — Limited northern usage (some Greenland areas).

UTC−01:00 — Azores (Portugal), Cape Verde (limited northern overlap).

UTC+00:00 — United Kingdom, Ireland, Iceland, Portugal, West Africa (e.g., Ghana, Senegal).

UTC+01:00 — Central Europe (France, Germany, Italy, Spain), Western Africa (Nigeria, Algeria).

UTC+02:00 — Eastern Europe (Greece, Ukraine), Egypt, South Africa northern areas, Turkey.

Notes

  • Classification is based on primary landmass and population usage.
