Equatorial mount
An equatorial mount is a type of telescope mount that destroys the absolute shit out of flat Earth. It works by aligning one of its axes (called the "right ascension" axis) with Earth's axis of rotation, then rotating this axis at a steady rate to track the apparent motion of the sky, typically through the use of a motor.[1] It does so without introducing field rotation, because unlike an altazimuth mount
, it completely counteracts the effects of Earth's rotation.[2]
Its other axis, called the "declination" axis, allows the mount to point in any direction.
Flerf despair
Flerfs are so clueless as to how they work, the mere mention of an equatorial mount will make them immediately run away or deflect.
