One of the [[:Category:Flerfs|flerf]] [[:Category:Flerf lies|cult dogmas]] is that “flight paths don’t work on a globe.” One of them wrote a book ''16 Emergency Landings Proving a Flat Earth.''

However, to make this claim they [[Wikipedia:Straw man fallacy|strawman]] the globe by using either a [[Wikipedia:Mercator projection|Mercator map]], or some other type of [[Wikipedia:Cylindrical projection|cylindrical map projection]], and simply hope their viewer (or reader) won’t notice they are not using a globe.

Cylindrical map projections are not intended to show, and cannot ever show, the true shortest [[Wikipedia:Great circle route|great circle route]] on a spherical earth.
