His app, "Flat Earth Sun, Moon and Zodiac", uses the globe to compute distances on the surface of Earth. On the Gleason Map that his app displays, it would be very easy to compute distances using simple trigonometry. However, the source code reveals his app uses the [[Wikipedia:Haversine formula|Haversine formula]]. Dave knows that only the globe can accurately predict distances.
